Estancia Churrascaria: Tasty Brazilian Steakhouse

by Mr. Yum, under Barbecue

We recently reviewed Fogo de Chao. You’ll remember how we discussed the origin of the word “churrascaria.” This place is extremely similar to Fogo de Chao. However, who was in Austin first? You may be surprised to find out it was none other than Estancia Churrascaria. This is a great place to get your fix on delicious meats ranging from cordeiro (lamb) to my favorite, picanha (seasoned sirloin). It may be worth mentioning that the salad bar is a bit smaller at Estancia Churrascaria (as compared with Fogo de Chao), but props to Estancia for recognizing that we’re here to enjoy the main attraction: the meat.

Taste the meaty goodness today at Fogo de Chao

by Mr. Yum, under Barbecue

For those not familiar with the concept of a churrascaria, it may be shocking – especially for vegetarians. Of course, what vegetarian isn’t horrified at a barbecue joint? Churrascarias are the Brazilian (or more gramatically correct, Portuguese) form of an all-you-can-eat barbecue buffet. Fogo enhances that by delivering the meat directly to your table and including a delicious salad/fusion bar for you to enjoy with side items. It’s a truly unique experience. Every cut of meat is delicious – from the lamb to the chicken to the beef to the pork. It’s a low-carb dream!

While we’re talking barbecue, let’s not forget Smokey Mo’s

by Mr. Yum, under Barbecue

Smokey Mo’s is a Cedar Park tradition. It’s good – darn good. The thinly-sliced moist brisket and ribs were once again fall-off-the-bone good. A stop at any of the Smokey Mo’s locations is always a wise choice. Don’t forget to load up on the warm sauce while you’re there. You won’t regret it.

Oak Hill has some darn good BBQ at Donn’s

by Mr. Yum, under Barbecue

Don’t turn north too early at the Y in Oak Hill. Hidden away behind the old abandoned Albertson’s Grocery Store is a metal warehouse filled with pigs, birds, and cattle… All cooked of course! All of the meat at Donn’s Barbecue is mouth-watering deliciousness. The brisket was tender and juicy while the ribs fell off the bone. It’s on old-fashioned Texas Barbecue joint with old-fashioned barbecue.

The County Line Bar-B-Q is great

by Mr. Yum, under Barbecue

The County Line Bar-B-Q is fast becoming a Texas phenomenon. The barbecue and bread are just fantastic. The fall-off-the-bone pork ribs make my mouth water any time of the day. Whether it’s the tender, moist brisket, the sausage, or the turkey you fancy, it’s worth the often long wait times. Mr. Yum personally recommends getting the barbecue sampler appetizer. It’s plenty of food and a good assessment of the lineup.

P.S. Hey County Line, make the delicious loaves of bread free with a meal!
